Gnome terminal takeover

I'm having some trouble finding a suitable way to load Midnight
Commander. If I create a launcher which calls /usr/bin/mc, Intrepid
(Gnome) loads it in the Gnome Terminal which I do not like.
If I create a script to load it in rxvt, it still loads the Gnome
terminal, then loads rxvt and runs mc despite the fact I have picked
rxvt in my preferred terminal apps. What am I missing here ??
