Well I have a DSL modem-router and that router IS a router. I have a
cat 8 cable from this router plugged into 192.168.0.1 plug. The other
end is at the input Internet on a Belkin modem from Wal Mart. It has a
WiFi output and 4 ports for cat5 things. I am not sure this is a router.

I did a traceroute from this computer looking for the laptop and it
failed. But a traceroute from the laptop works to this computer.

I am quiting for now, but it's an interesting problem for me to
solve. Then I can play with ssh some more.
