update-manager bug

Whilst attempting to upgrade from ubuntu 6.06 LTS to ubuntu-8.10 using
ubuntu -8.10-alternate-i386.iso, I received 2 messages of:- 
'WARNING: Failed to read mirror file' 
-followed by an exhortation to include files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/
with a bug report.(see attachment)
I hope this will suffice.
