pdf2ps and scribus

As I said, I will try to edit an existing .pdf using the
software pdf2ps, and Scribus 1.3.3.11 which is taking a long time to
display the one page pdf I am using. I can see however that Scibus is
using a lot of tiff images from the .ps file one at a time.
The pdf has many colors and fonts and it is a real problem
getting it onto the Scribus. Then I looked and Scribus has written into
the directory 50 files I can not remove. But I did it with sudo rm -rf
*.tiff and that worked
The original pdf has 721,2225 and the new from Scribus has
311,440 bytes. Makes you think the new pdf is lacking detail. That is
exactly what happened. The new pdf bears little resemblance to the
original. The postscript file is 156,373 bytes so it can not be a good
copy of the original pdf file.
So I must conclude that pdf2ps does not work well at all, and
Scribus writes files all over your computer. This is not good. Does
anyone know a better way to save a pdf as a ps file?
This has been fun and educational :-)
