Missed one more thing I wanted to say.

There's a risk to running AV as well as the reward.  Many times AV
products on the Windows side have had false positives and destroyed
data rather than saved it.   (Symantec, Kaspersky, Windows Defender,
etc etc - they've all done it)  In Windows, running that risk is
worthwhile because the gain outweighs the risk.  In linux, I think the
risk from hacker viruses is lower than the risk of the AV itself being
a problem.
