You can easily live safely without AV on
Linux and even on Windows. The only thing making malware
successful in this day and age is that most people are
basically clueless about computer security, acting accordingly.
Let's not forget that today's AV products are far from perfect.
Signature-based detection is basically dead, and
behaviour-based detection is flawed to say the least.
I don't know how many times I've heard "But I have
antivirus! How come I got infected?". I explain to them
that no AV product is foolproof. It's sad to see their
astonished faces. They truly believed that their AV
would protect them from any and all malware.
