No applications installed on desktop after installation

I downloaded the ISO image for the 64bit version of Linux from Georgia Tech. I installed the OS on the second hard drive iin my PC. After the installation was complete and I signed on, I did not have any applications installed on my desktop. Is there something else that needs to be done?

Configuration:
Hp Pavillion with an AMD processor
6gb of memory
drive 0 has Windows Vista installed
drive?1 was the target for the Linux installation
Integrated sound, Nic, and video
