You haven't found an answer because you haven't told anyone what you've
done, what version of Ubuntu you are running, and whether you are using
the Gnome or KDE/Kubutu desktop.

You need to state exactly what the errors & actions are when you try to
boot to WinXP. That way someone may be able to help you troubleshoot
further. You also need to tell us if you can see the XP drive and files
in Ubuntu.

Further, if you can boot into Ubuntu, you should be able to recover
files from the WinXP drive if the drive will mount; click on
'Places|Computer' and look for your XP drive there. It may just list
the media size of the drive, but it you should be able to tell if it
shows something like '40 GB Media' (for a 40GB drive). Double click on
that and will most likely mount and open the drive so that you can see
the files.

Answer those basic questions & then someone can tell you if you need to
troubleshoot Windows, the grub bootloader etc. *Whatever you do, do not*
try reinstalling windows etc. Take it a step at a time so that you don't
accidentially write over your windows files & disk.
