Another reason to prefer a real root over sudo

I have already done that on 'my' system but I preferred to keep my
wife's system as near standard as possible.

However, as I have pointed out, running [x]ubuntu with a root account
to which you can login, introduces some frustrating bugs of its own.

In fact this thread has been very useful because I have found out that
"switch user" enables me to do what I want on my wife's system without
too much hassle.  I.e. I actually got an answer to my comment/query,
surely that's what this list is for.
