If the light does not come on in the NIC port when a cable is plugged in, the 
card itself is what is having the problem.  Check if it is properly seated in 
the slot, try in a different slot or computer, ...but likely you would need a 
new NIC.  Going to USB would slow your speed down to modem speeds,  ...not 
usually a desired solution given the fact that NICs usually cost about a 
quarter of what a decent serial solution costs.

Top posters are just generally ignored.  People get tired of trying to tell 
them how to behave on a maillist so after a bit, they just killfile the top 
posters.
