Yes, Eric, but it's preferable to do grub-mkconfig.
update-grub2 does more than just creating a new .cfg file which is 
unnecessary and is created for the benefit for those getting use to 
grub2 where update-grub is a common useful command. Again, if all fails, 
use grub-install (instead of update-grub2) where a new 'grub system' is 
created.
