I am not a technical support person for UBUNTU, and I do not know how to help you.

Subject: cant install
I have a Tyan s2892 mobo with 285 opteron CPUs and 8gig of RAM. (i.e. dual
dual core opteron at 2.6GHz).
My system fell over recently (I updated Arch Linux, and the update caused
the machine to crash), and I decided to rebuild it using Ubuntu 9.10
I have to use a SATA DVD, as I suspect my IDE DVD drive has died? I have
set up BIOS accordingly.
When I try to install, the screen gets as far as setting up network time,
and then "checking for file system", and the screen starts blinking, and
that is as far as I can get.
I used a Gentoo CD to re-partition the hard drive - still same problem
trying to install Ubuntu.
I installed OpenSolaris on the other hard drive - no problems apart from
no driver for my sound card).
I was able to install Windows XP on the machine on the same hard drive I
am trying to install Ubuntu to.
I cannot figure out why Ubuntu wont install.
