It doesn't have anything to do with how much it can address. The faster
memory modules simply need more power, and that is why they cut
down the number of DIMMs; to assure that they get fed enough power.
Motherboard manufacturers are conservative when it comes to this, and
they'd rather do this than risk a potentially unstable machine. That
being said, it's mostly an issue for old motherboards like the one
described in this thread.
