Evolution can use a proxy to fetch images referenced in HTML email.

Evolution does not talk to the webmail interface. It uses either POP or
IMAP directly to the server at your ISP, to fetch mail. You need to
know the following to set up the mail account:
1: Protocol (either POP or IMAP)
2: If encryption is used (it should be, to prevent snooping of your
password)
3: Your username and password for the account.
4: The name of the mail server

You also need to know the name of the server at your ISP that evolution
needs to connect to to send mail.

Note that I am saying 'your ISP' here, because this advice is for the
email account that is normally included as a service for you when you
connect to the Internet.

You are sending mail using gmail. I can't see anything on their site
advising how to access gmail using anything other than a web browser
(and it talks about storing your mail on their servers). I don't use
gmail, so can't offer any real advice if you are wanting to access that
account using evolution.
