can't undo continuely in vi editor

As noted in the reply to your previous message, you are probably using a 
limited version of vim (vim.tiny). ls -als /etc/alternatives/vi should 
give an indication about which vi implementation you are using. You 
should note that the ubuntu repository includes several alternatives 
(vile, nvi, vim, elvis, levee). All with their strong and weak points.
