newly installed ubuntu os will not boot from hdd

> Sounds like the BIOS is still set to boot from CD, not from the HDD.
Doubtful unless it's a really old box. All the computers I've played
with for a long time would boot from the hdd if the cd drive was empty.
The error message he quotes indicates the cd drive is indeed empty. Why
the boot process doesn't default to the hdd is beyond me.
