Network Drive Installation without using Samba

Folks,

I have a network of 4 systems, all running 8.04LTS. I would like to 
obtain and install a Network Drive without using Samba. The only info I 
have found about installing and accessing a Network Drive seem to use 
Samba. I do not need nor do I want an interface to other than Ubuntu 
based systems that OD NOT dual boot.

How do I go about it?
