You don't understand, or more likely I didn't explain correctly. The
fromtend, backend and mythtv and all the depends have the same version
on my 64 bit Karmic. So should yours, I think. Try running again:
sudo aptitude update, then
sudo aptitude install mythtv-backend-master
and see if you have the right version
Also read the last sentence in the output of aptitude show
mythtv-backend-master which on my machine is the same version as mythtv.
It mentions that it is installed on a server usually rather than
a desktop among other comments. Are you using your laptop as a
server? If not, you may not need mythtv-backend-master.
Also, in case the mirrors are having some trouble updating the
latest versions, try running:
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade or full-upgrade
Check you cli output closely. looking for error messages or held
packages.
Could also try:
sudo aptitude -f install
sudo dpkg --configure -a
as it wont hurt anything and may fix some quirk in the packaging system.
If none of that helps, I would try a different mirror/repo using
software sources letting it select the best one for you. HTH
