Reversing broken updates

D'Oh! I've just discovered that aptitude has the same feature. Somehow I 
missed it, but once I knew it was possible in Synaptic, I tried harder 
and found it. In aptitude you just select the package and press v which 
then shows the available versions, cursor to the right one, and install 
it in the normal way. Easy when you know how. I mention it here for 
future reference.
