As pointed out in a reply to NoOp's post on this same thread, purging
gdm on my Karmic
64 bit install sent the low res issue to device null, including a
partition of Karmic with gdm
still installed. I know that doesn't make sense but that's what
happened. So If the new gdm
upgrade doesn't solve it for you maybe rming (purge it for sure) will
fix the issue. If you
are using gdm as your display manager then be sure to install kdm before
you try to reboot.
Hate to see you go to Lenny when the low res issue can be solved. The
low res issue seems
to have boiled down to a conflict between gdm, kdm and the failsafe mode
conflicting with
each other according to what I've read googling, so I just purged
gdm(running kdm) and
the problem went away. Hope you at least try it and stay with Ubuntu.
