I think this shows that you either do not ever use Windows or have never 
applied a service pack to your Windows :-)

Wrong on all accounts.  I do use Vista occasionally and whenever I boot it up I always update it to date including the service pack if there is one.  And I think you are referring  to Karl rather than me.  I use Karmic 64 bit up-to-date, latest kernel and the latest nVidia driver on the repos.  There is an issue with low res on every boot to either partition but I manage to get around it on every boot.  Probably will try the new -190 driver soon as Karmic is still buggy.  I also have 2 Karmic partitions with essentially the same apps installed and each performs differently regarding X windows using the same nVidia-glx-185 driver.  That's buggy in my opinion.
Did you have something to contribute regarding the issue?
