What I have seen from Dell is that they supply and assist with software which
enables any of their Ubuntu loaded machines to work very well. Extremely
well indeed in my case! However, there is commonally a hardware difference
between a 1525 and a 1525n for instance. They do NOT go so far out of their
way to make a machine which was not intended for Ubuntu work correctly under
Ubuntu, instead they even send you off to their vista or xp support units!
Your service tag gives them the needed information as to the OS installation.
The customer should be able to buy what he wants in the first place and is in
fact the war that Linux is fighting in the marketplace. You want the choice
for a factory installed Ubuntu? Then you really need to support those
offering that choice or you'll no longer have a choice.
