Hello Sam

Yes, Ubuntu 9.04 is stable. Looks like something went wrong during the 
upgrade. So, you could say the upgrade is not stable...

Anyway, I told you that the problem you have is because /dev/pts is not 
mounted. I had the same problem and explained you how I could temporary 
solve the problem...

The box I experienced the problem is for testing and development. In the 
mean time I already made a fresh install and the problem is gone. I 
don't have a final solution. But this problem was already reported on 
launchpad a long time ago. Looks like almost nobody got hit by this.

I don't know when /dev/pts should get mounted during the boot process 
and could not find the place at he time I did a glance at the boot 
scripts. Maybe somebody else on the list knows.

I had a working workaround for the moment and I knew I will re-install 
soon, so I could live with the workaround for the time being.
