hum, i have an ibm t60 with ati mobility radeon x1400 and it works out
of the box with hardy and jaunty.  however, in hardy i have to install
the ati proprietory drivers to get visual affects (which I don't really
need since resolution is good with open source drivers).  in jaunty,
visual affects just work with open source driver.  However, if you must
have the ati drivers, here-ya-go

after downloading the binary of the driver you need, then you click on
some link unofficial linux wiki help from that ati site to get specific
instructions to generate/build the .deb's
