Recording audio from the speaker

would it be a possibility to just get a male-male speaker plug, and plug
that into your microphone port, and into your line-out? I've used this
method to record some of my dad's old vinyl records onto CDs that he can
listen to in his car (though this was from record-player headphone jack
to PC-mic, but the principal should be the same).
