"Vulnerable Linux Kernel", now there's an oxymoron.
There are two programs to suggest, chkrootkit and rkhunter. They check
for the known rootkits that are out there, of which there are a few that
can hit older or out-of-date kernels. As to being hacked, almost all of
the hacks involve installing rootkits, so this is the route to go.
