RUN FSCK MANUALLY

Can someone help?

I am a new user of UBUNTU

Please word your assistance in plain English.  I do not know UNIX at all.

I am having a problem in opening the operating system on my lap top.

It says:

*'unclean shutdown checking drivers

/dev sda 1*

it then shows the count down:

*Stage1/5  ???/574*

It stops at:

*44% Stage 1/5     363/574  - F*ail

and says

*Automatic file system check (fsck) of the roof file system failed

A manual fsck must be performed then the systyem restarted

Fcsk died with exit status 4

Run fsck manually
