Very soft sound on new setup

Try to adjust your pcm or wave volume. This is the slider that sets the
volume for your system sounds and file playback from disk. I gave it 2
different names because different sound cards call it different names,
but it's usually either pcm or wave. Also look for pcm2 or something
similar, since this can also affect the volume of system sounds on some
devices.
