espeak does not work when flash is playing.

Espeak by default will not play while other applications are playing
because it uses OSS to send data to the sound device. Try running espeak
through padsp in your script like this:

padsp espeak "$TEXT"

Where "$TEXT" is the quoted text to be spoken. This runs espeak through
pulseaudio, and should solve your problem.
