irsssi multi server usage

okay I am remotely logged into the server running the irssi client. 
alt-1 is appearing as ##[# on the status line CLI for the irssi client.
What are some other keystroke Options?  Or how can I bind the alt-1 from 
my mac keyboard to properly be
