Hi KArl, something does seem amiss here based on my experience. I usually have to run update-alernatives whenever I install(upgrade) to a new kernel version. On many occasions, on an update or new install, I have to go through the update-alternatives again(they change). As we both use 9.04 64 bit, I'm surprised you only have the npwrapper since swfdec-mozilla/libswfdecmozilla.so is an auto install, I believe, and I have both. swf-dec was the default where flash didn't work, now the npwrapper flash installer is by my selection and flash media play fine. I'm no expert here so may be missing something. I've also had to reinstall flashplugin-nonfree a few times on several versions of Ubuntu. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help, but did you get flash media to play for you yet. Hope so.
