Openoffice not starting

I used synaptic to reinstall all the open office components.
Just the ones that were already installed.  Did not add any new components.
It did not help.

I assumed one of the files hidden in my home directory .openoffice...
something or other has been corrupted.  I blew them all away with a:

   rm -rf .openoffice*

That didn't help either.

I'm still assuming it's something corrupted in my home directory, but what?
