first off, I know little problems like this can be frustrating, but a
calm approach is much more productive...so unless it's life-or-death
important that you have this issue resolved today, I hope you've used
the hour-or-so since you sent your message to calm down a bit.

Next, it would help to know exactly what 'shit' you downloaded and are
trying to open... it is entirely possible that you don't have any
programs installed that know what to do with your mystery object.  If
that's the case, then all we need to do is find out what program you
need to open your whatsits.

On the other hand, if its a common object (like a .pdf document), then
it should be as simple as opening it with "Document Viewer"

Either way, in order for anybody to help, we need to know the following
bits of info:
      * What are you downloading (i.e. filename+extension would be
        helpful)
      * Where are you downloading this thing from? (URL would be
        helpful)
