Another hardcore text editor is "vim" -- based around the old UNIX "VI" 
-- not used it (I'm a gedit kind of guy), but it was recommended to me by 
a user here.

For HTML, I use Komposer (I'm not a power user as you'll see from this 
one), but you might find bluefish to be down the lines of what you are 
looking for.
