Just to follow up.. I spoke too soon. The Jaunty install trashed my
root filesystem twice. The second time required a reinstall. I backed
the system back down to Intrepid until this bug is fixed. It was
reported in May, and seems to be fixed in later kernel releases, but
these haven't made it to Ubuntu yet.
So the upgrade wasn't quite as smooth as it seemed. In fact, this bug
caused catastrophic data loss.
