To back up your documents in Windows XP, I have found xcopy to be a very
useful command. This web page shows nicely how to use the xcopy command
to save desired files:

If you use XP in the usual way, you probably just need to save stuff in
Desktop and Setting while excluding some system folders (e.g. Cache, etc.).
