I had a few backups in the /etc/X11 directory, but none of them produced 
any different results.

I have a Panasonic "Let's Note" CF-Y2 laptop. The "Let's Note" series of 
laptops is the Japanese name for the "Toughbook" released in the US.

Is there more specific information needed?
