Aha! There. I was looking somewhere else.
OK it is gone from the places menu in Nautilus, but it is not gone from
the places menu in the main menu at the top of my screen.

I think the only way I can explain this is with a screenshot:

On the left: gone from the Places menu.
At the top: NOT gone from the Places menu.

I was always looking at the top menu, and you guys were probably looking
at Nautilus. Seems like we were both right.
