It should show up - I wonder what your 'cleaning up' was exactly.

I usually install sysvconfig on Debian type systems.  This gives me
two things - a nice curses interface to turn on and off services, and
the 'service' command which is engraved in my fingers.  So, sudo
aptitude install sysvconfig && sudo sysvconfig and see if cupsys is
listed,  If it isn't then post the output of aptitude show cupsys.
