X performance woes

Leonard, I was fully upgraded, though had not rebooted. I have now
rebooted on the off chance there is something the whole "reboot and
cross your fingers" school of thought, and the kernel changes that
were in the upgrade somewhere.

I also noticed that it looked like my xorg.conf file had been held
back because of changes to the previous one (dontzap addition), and I
replaced that with the newer one. There was some keyboard related
differences there. Interesting. I am in the first minutes of this X
session so its a little early to say for sure, but it definitely
*seems* better. In the previous config, the performance degradation
got worse the longer firefox was running. So time will tell.
