As my first post stated, I'm a complete noob when it comes to 
networking. I was under the impression that the key was a user created 
random string. From your reply I get the idea that this isn't true, i.e. 
your reference to "the right key".

The problem persists when I let the encryption be set automatically. The 
connection is dropped and when I try to reconnect the error message says 
"this network requires encryption to be enabled". This despite the 
network is detected as employing wpa2.

Any further advice or ideas?
