Thunderbird (only) cannot connect after system upgrading to Jaunty.

Might Thunderbird have been functioning via a local proxy, or local
SMTP/POP3/IMAP servers, that are not present in the new install?

Try renaming your $HOME/.mozilla-thunderbird directory and try on a
fresh profile. That will help narrow down the possible problems.
