how to reinstall previous kernel

The ESC key has no effect only the letter e
There are no other kernels shown in Grub (outside of my other distro)
/usr/src$ ls -lt
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 2009-04-10 04:00 linux-headers-2.6.28-11-generic
drwxr-xr-x 22 root root 4096 2009-04-10 04:00 linux-headers-2.6.28-11
the headers for the previous kerenels were removed by the du
also since I did not start konversation i have not had a freeze. hmmm....
what is the prefered chat client used in Ubuntu ?
I could just try using it.
With my other distro i can select other kernels that are available on
grub but the first
kernel is no longer listed.
