In addition to my other post requesting additional information, please
have a look here regarding viruses:

In general you shouldn't need to to worry about viruses on your system
with the exeptions listed in that link. Even email scans are not likely
to be necessary if you practice safe email & don't forward email &
attachments that you aren't sure of and have received from Windows users.
For the time being, concentrate on resolving the freeze issues by
providing the information that you've been asked for. Let the folks on
the list help you get that sorted out first.
