Until you activate the proprietary drivers Ubuntu will default to the
open drivers. Or if you are running the proprietary drivers you can
deactivate them (System --> Administration --> Hardware drivers. Same
places as they were activated). Or from the recovery boot menu down at
the very end of the list there's an option to fix "X", which I used to
recover from the failure to install the proprietary rev 180 driver. So
right now I'm using the open driver which doesn't give me 1900x1200
setting that I want. Everything is just a little bit squashed.
