Ok I have a computer with a fresh install of ubuntu 8.10 amd 64
installed. The problem is with my emu 1212m that worked
some what when I had ubuntu 8.10 x86 installed. When I installed
ubuntu 8.10 amd 64 ver., no sound module where loaded, for the
sound card. So after googling for a day, I came across a site that
recommended I install,

 - alsa-firmware-loaders 1.0.17
 - alsa-tools 1.0.17
 - ld10k1
 - liblo10k1-0

after I installed the above and ( Ismod |grep snd_emu ) I get the following

snd_emu10k1_synth 15616 0
snd_emux_synth 46720 1 snd_emu10k1_synth
snd_seq_virmidi 14592 1 snd_emux_synth
snd_seq_midi_emul 16128 1 snd_emux_synth
snd_emu10k1 164128 1 snd_emu10k1_synth
snd_ac97_codec 133080 1 snd_emu10k1
snd_pcm 99208 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_page_alloc 17680 2 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm
snd_util_mem 13312 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1
snd_hwdep 16904 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1
snd_rawmidi 34176 3 snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_seq_midi
snd_seq 67168 9
snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_seq_midi_emul,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_timer 34320 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm,snd_seq
snd_seq_device 16404 8
snd_emu10k1_synth,snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq
snd 79432 13
snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_hwdep,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device

but I still get no sound, so I did an asoundconf list and no name appears.
and when I try to bring up alsamixer I get

"No mixer elems found"

Any help would be appreciated
