sacanner for mfc-240c brother

I have a printer MFC-240C, now  I need use the scanner I came to the Brother Linux page but I don't know if the Ubuntu 8.4 work in 32 or 64 bits and with XSANE how is the procedure with de files brscan and scann key tool and how I is the installation protocol
