My ThinkPad T61p locked up randomly every couple of days, which
manifested by blinking NumLock and CapsLock leds and becoming totally
unresponsive (except for the power button).
I've found on Ubuntu forums that this might be caused by the wireless
driver, and indeed creating /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-wireless
containing:
blacklist iwl4965
made lockups go away (I don't need wifi at the moment).
Recently I upgraded the iwl4965 module (1.2.0 → 1.2.25 according to
modinfo) by installing linux-backports-modules-hardy, and reenabled it
by removing the above file. No lockups so far, but only few days have
passed.
