I'm not really sure where to come into this thread, but I'm pretty sure
this same user same group only relates to Windows 98. I don't think the
problem exists otherwise.
YMBR, but the case in point envolved a lan in my home using a Windows XP Pro wifi connected and a Gutsy machine(or maybe a Dapper machine before I upgraded) direct wired to 2Wire DSL wireless modem/router combo. And I don 't think my memory is that faulty but Karl wrote the manual. I think that maybe Karl was assuming something else. Assuming your local home network joined a windows workgroup could the workgroup name be different on several computers in that network. It wouldn't seem so to me logically but as I said "I'n no expert of samba or networking" no expert on anything actually.
