I realize it's pretty laughable for _me_ to discourse on politeness, but
what's wrong with that?  What precisely is wrong with "Political
Correctness" in this sort of forum?

I didn't particularly object - I just see no further need to make any effort
to help someone who won't be polite in his requests.

So?  And he expects to get help like that?  That's why politeness counts.
